In the spring of 2020, The Annette and Irwin Eskind Family Biomedical Library and Learning Center staff called on the community to participate in an exhibition called “Telling Our Stories: Graphic Medicine.” Graphic Medicine utilized comics as its medium to help patients, families, health sciences students and all levels of clinical staff with healing, coping, educating and communicating the many aspects of our interactions with health care. It distinguishes itself as a form of art therapy by encouraging artistic expression in the context of health care, whether the subject is clinical, research, education, financial or organizational. While the pandemic forced the cancellation of the physical exhibit, the staff took the exhibit online, where it became a permanent feature on the library’s website. Drawings can be viewed in the exhibit’s image gallery at https://researchguides.library.vanderbilt.edu/graphicmedexhb.
